LUNCH AT A SNAZZY PINK HOUSE

LUNCH AT A SNAZZY PINK HOUSE

The unforgettable Nigel Molesworth

In glorious sunshine we went to the Goldmans for lunch. I’ve never been to their house before. It’s huge, pink, and full of the corniest things I've ever seen like gilt lamps shaped like yachts and cigarette lighters like dolphins. It's a bit of a contrast to our Danish furniture and modern things!

But the Goldmans make up for their lack of taste by being terribly nice. Grandma says we descend from Lithuanian Jews - well, the more I see of Jews the more I like them. First we chatted a bit and saw photos of the marquee at their terrific party. David was there, then the two younger children arrived - Cherry (20) who wears piles of make-up and had a red trouser-suit on, and Mark (nearly 18), rather a snazz, similar to Phil in 'The Newcomers'.

We had a whacking lunch, I sat between Mark and David. We all talked about our boat, it was fun. Had ice cream with lashings of cream for pudding. Then it began to snow about 1.30! Had coffee and saw lots of super photos of Kenya and all the other places they've been to. Mr Goldman said they know two women who have become mental from touching mice - I always did detest the creatures. Mrs G is terribly sweet but I always used to dislike her because she's so slinky.

Mark is doing Othello for ‘A’ Level and told me I looked like Ingrid Bergman!

About 4.45 we finally left. It was snowing quite hard by then.

Back home saw 'The Three Musketeers' after tea. Then did bags of Latin - Key Facts is marvellous, I may even pass now. Then read ‘How to Be Topp’ in bed, whenever I read it, I end up in stitches.

"Grown ups are wot is left when skool is finished. Masters are not really grown ups they are ha-ha just spoilt children who hav to hav their own way. You kno where you are with them. One is strict another wheezes through his false teeth, a third teaches geom and a fourth teaches Less than O he just wanders about. It is not the same with Grown Ups who were always perfect when they were young. e.g. WHEN I WAS A BOY I WOULD NOT HAV DARED TO SPEAK TO MY FATHER LIKE THAT."

Ma came to see if I was alright. She thought I'd been crying!

The Three Musketeers (BBC)

Fast forward to 2.23 for a black and white clip of THE THREE MUSKETEERS, with Jeremy Brett and Brian Blessed. Ingrid fancied Jeremy Brett.
