THE BEST HOUSES FACE SOUTH

THE BEST HOUSES FACE SOUTH

S U N D A Y,  2 9  J A N

Gorgeous sun in the morning streaming into the house. I really don’t think anything in the world has a better effect on people than sunshine. All houses should be designed to face south.

Sir Francis Chichester was on the News. He’s going to go round the Horn despite everyone’s criticism, and he sounds pretty confident about it. He is marvellous, and at his age too.

Sir Francis Chichester

Having had a serious brush with cancer, Francis Chichester caught the sailing bug, and, in 1960, sailed from Plymouth to New York in record time. On 27 August 1966 he set off from Plymouth in Gipsy Moth IV, to circumnavigate the world making only one stop. Having smashed every record in the book he returned a hero on 28 May, at the age of 65. My sailing Daddy, 44 at the time, was a youngster in comparison.
